Greenhead Guys Formula Transparency

Research-Informed Formulation

Greenhead Guys insect repellent formula incorporates botanical compounds such as geraniol, citral (from lemongrass), eugenol (from clove), and cinnamaldehyde (from cinnamon), which have been evaluated in peer-reviewed laboratory and field studies involving mosquitoes, biting flies, and other insects. Published research has documented contact repellency, landing deterrence, and interference with host-seeking behavior across multiple species.

Effective repellency depends not only on ingredient selection, but on the synergy of the blend and its method of delivery. Rather than relying on a single compound, we use a balanced system of plant-derived ingredients supported by carrier oils, stabilizers, and fixatives designed to support even surface distribution and manage evaporation in outdoor environments.

EPA 25(b) Minimum Risk Compliance

The Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) has determined that certain “minimum risk pesticides” pose little to no risk to human health or the environment, EPA has exempted them from the requirement that they be registered under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act. This exemption provision is located in 40 CFR 152.25(f)

Greenhead Guys insect repellent is formulated in accordance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 25(b) minimum risk pesticide exemption. This classification allows certain active ingredients and approved inert ingredients to be used without formal EPA registration, provided they meet strict safety and labeling criteria.

Our ingredient selection aligns with these guidelines.

Ingredients:
Contribution:

Geraniol

A naturally occurring plant compound that disrupts insects’ host-detection cues, making it a powerful, plant-based repellent.

Lemongrass Oil

An essential oil extracted from lemongrass that helps repel biting insects while adding a fresh, citrus scent. Widely used across Asia as a broad-based repellent.

Clove Oil

A powerful botanical oil used in small amounts to enhance repellent performance against biting flies and mosquitoes.

Cinnamon Oil

A highly aromatic plant oil that helps deter insects through its strong natural scent.

Coconut Oil

A lightweight coconut-derived carrier oil that helps spread the formula evenly and supports longer-lasting protection.

Mineral Oil

Carrier oil used for spreading active ingredients, while reducing evaporation.

Isopropyl Myristate

Skin-conditioning agent that improves spray feel and helps reduce oiliness.

Isopropyl Alcohol

Helps dissolve plant oils and allows the spray to dry quickly on skin without feeling greasy.

Vanillin

Functions as a fixative, helping slow evaporation of volatile plant oils and extend their duration of effectiveness; commonly used in perfumes and colognes.

Glycerol Monooleate

A plant-based emulsifier that keeps the formula stable and ensures ingredients stay evenly mixed.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol)

An antioxidant that helps protect the oils in the formula from breaking down over time.
